Student Work (Red River River College)
project
To create a new visual identity system for an existing organization. The project consisted of conducting research, developing the brand strategy, articulating a brand story, and creating a new brand identity; then building off those components to create expressions and make a brand toolkit.
design rationale
The Bison Books re-brand creates a cohesive visual identity for the brand. The new badge logo is versatile and iconic with a vintage flair. It retains the titular bison but updates the image by depicting a bison head-on in a simplified portrait. The brand colours are warm and earthy, drawn from the yellowing pages of old books and rusting prairie machinery. However, the store is still vibrant, modern and thriving. The brand typefaces Museo Sans Rounded and Cormorant Garamond speak to this balance between new and old, just as the books Bison Books sells can be new adventures and old friends.
